Typical tasks of a Memphis police officer
A Memphis Police Officer works under the direction of an assigned supervisor to perform a wide range of tasks to promote the public safety and security. As a police officer you will:

  • Make Arrests
  • Direct Traffic
  • Investigate Crimes
  • Write Reports
  • Assist Citizens
  • Serve Warrants
  • Conduct Searches
  • Preserve Crime Scenes
  • Respond to Emergencies of all Types

Requirements
Age: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age upon completion of the Police Basic Training Program at the Police Training Academy.

Criminal Record: Applicants must not have been convicted of, or pled guilty (or entered a plea of Nolo Contendere) to any felony charges. This also applies to violations of any federal/state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license (Must obtain a TN driver’s license if hired.)
  • Successful candidate must establish residence in Shelby County within six months of hire date.
