Tips to Reduce False Alarms

Police Alarms:

  1. Keep your contact information up-to-date ( with your provider)
  2. Train everyone with access on how to use the system and give codes to visiting relatives
  3. Cancel accidental signals and don’t forget your shut-off code
  4. Have a professional install the system
  5. Make sure your system has a battery
  6. Keep pets, balloons, fans, heaters, plants, curtains, seasonal decorations, etc. Away from motion sensor areas.
  7. Test your motion sensor placements and lock protected doors and windows tightly
  8. Make user’s manual accessible to all users
  9. Call your alarm company for upgrades
  10. Be aware of the weather forecast


Fire Alarms:

  1. Clean your smoke detector regularly.
  2. Test smoke detectors properly several times a year.
  3. Install fire alarms away from furnaces and ovens.
  4. Make sure you replace the battery
  5. Place fire detectors in correct locations in dry areas
  6. Be aware of areas with exhaust gases or open flames
  7. Establish a proactive kitchen-use policy
  8. Use approved equipment from certified providers
  9. Use the right detector
