Behavior Helpline

Are you considering surrendering your pet to Memphis Animal Services due to behavior problems he or she is having? Now there’s help! Memphis Animal Services now has a grant-funded Behavior Helpline, open to any Memphis resident who is considering surrendering their pet due to the pet’s behavior issues.

The first step is to fill out this form to help determine the level of assistance you need.

Once you fill out the form above, helpline staff will contact you to work through the problem. Many behavior issues may be able to be resolved through email or phone conversations. For more in-depth problems that require in-person consultations, pet owners may elect to be referred to an animal trainer or behaviorist at their own expense. Pet behavior helpline assistance will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, as funds allow, and funds are limited. The behavior helpline is funded by an Innovation Grant from Maddie’s Fund®, a national family foundation established by Dave and Cheryl Duffield to revolutionize the status and well-being of companion animals.

The MAS Behavior Helpline is staffed by animal behaviorist Jennie Lane, who holds the following qualifications: Associate Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, Registered Veterinary Technician, Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Davis, and a Master of Arts from California State University, Sacramento. Lane’s recent professional experience includes working for the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Behavior Team and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. She continues to serve as a professional behavior responder for the ASPCA in addition to working with private clients through her own behavior consulting practice, Synergy Animal Behavior LLC.
