Update on zoo parking

In 2016, Mayor Jim Strickland approved a resolution to expand the Memphis Zoo parking lots. Most recently, work was done to explore the opportunity to build a parking deck in the area known as Prentiss Lot, however, with escalating costs, the parking deck is no longer financially feasible. Therefore, the City is proceeding with the original plan of reconstructing the main parking lot at the Memphis Zoo which will increase the lot by over 400 spaces. The construction could begin as early as January 2022 and be finished by the spring. As a result, overflow parking on the Greensward may be required during the busy holiday season when there is increased attendance especially during special events, such as Zoo Boo, Zootoberfest, and Zoo Lights. The Memphis Zoo will continue to be mindful of the neighboring community during this time and thanks you all for your patience until this project is complete.
