Structure Fires: Steve Road, Brookhaven Circle, Old Dominion Drive, Tully Street

The Memphis Fire Department responded to an alarm of fire at 3361 Steve Road, Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 10:19 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported fire visible from the two-story wood frame apartments. Twenty (20) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately fifty-one (51) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Division Chief P. Dix was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 11:52 p.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. It has been determined that the residence did have a working smoke alarm. Five (5) units sustained smoke, fire and/or water damage. Total damage is estimated at $100,000.00 structure and $10,000.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be intentionally set in multiple locations in the interior of the structure. Red Cross provided assistance for three (3) adults.

The Memphis Fire Department responded to an alarm of fire at 779 E. Brookhaven Circle, Sunday, January 3, 2021 at 7:16 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported fire visible from the two-story commercial beauty lounge. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Sixteen (16) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately thirty-nine (39) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Division Chief C. Newsom was the commanding officer of this incident. The
fire was brought under control at 7:40 p.m. One firefighter was transported in stable condition to Regional One Burn Unit with
1st and 2nd degree burns to his arms. There were no civilian injuries. It has been determined that the commercial structure did not have a sprinkler system. The structure sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $150,000.00 structure and $60,000.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be electrical; the heater’s wiring malfunctioned in the interior of the business.

The Memphis Fire Department responded to an alarm of fire at 3652 Old Dominion Drive, Sunday, January 3, 2021 at 11:09 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported smoke visible from the two-story wood frame apartments. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Fifteen (15) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately forty (40) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Battalion Chief S. Dew was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 11:25 p.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. It has been determined that the residence did not have a working smoke alarm. The apartments sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $20,000.00 structure and $6,000.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction in the fuse panel in the hallway closet. Red Cross provided assistance for two (2) adults and four (4) children.

The Memphis Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1051 Tully Street, Monday, January 4, 2021 at 3:01 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported heavy fire visible from the one-story wood frame residential duplex. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Twelve (12) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately twenty-eight (28) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Battalion Chief V. Hart was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 3:16 a.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. It has been determined that the residence did have a working smoke alarm. Both units sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $19,000.00 structure and $9,500.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be electrical; fallen power lines on the exterior of the home caused a surge and ultimately ignited a fire in the living room. Red Cross provided assistance for two (2) families.

The Memphis Fire Department urges all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence. Check smoke alarms once a month and change the battery when you change your clocks.
