The Memphis Fire Department responded to an alarm of fire at 5172 Wayfarer Circle, Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 10:37 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported heavy fire visible from the two-story wood frame apartments. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Fifteen (15) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately thirty-eight (38) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Battalion Chief J. Harrison was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 10:55 p.m. A ten (10) year old child was transported in stable condition to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for minor lacerations sustained to his arms when he escaped through a window. There were no firefighter injuries. It has been determined that the residence did have a working smoke alarm. Three (3) units sustained smoke, fire and/or water damage. Total damage is estimated at $50,000.00 structure and $20,000.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be a food left unattended on the stove in the kitchen. Red Cross provided assistance for three families.

The Memphis Fire Department responded to an alarm of fire at 2363 Hubbard Avenue, Sunday, December 20, 2020 at 12:26 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported heavy fire visible from the one-story wood-frame residential rooming house. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Thirteen (13) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately twenty-nine (29) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Battalion Chief C. Burton was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 12:45 a.m. One firefighter was treated and released on the scene for 2nd degree burns sustained to his left hand. There were no civilian injuries. Red Cross provided assistance for two adults. It has been determined that the residence did have a working smoke alarm. The structure sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $10,000.00 structure and $5,000.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be faulty electrical wiring in the bedroom.

Deerwood Avenue, Sunday, December 20, 2020 at 3:22 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported fire visible from the one-story wood-frame residential structure. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Thirteen (13) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately twenty-nine
(29) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Battalion Chief M. McNeil was the commanding officer
of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 3:40 a.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Red Cross provided assistance for two adults and two children. It has been determined that the residence did have a working smoke alarm. The structure sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $30,000.00 structure and $15,000.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be intentionally set on the rear porch. The Memphis Fire Department responded to an alarm of fire at 3296 W. Rosita Circle, Sunday, December 20, 2020 at 8:57 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported heavy fire visible from the two-story wood-frame residential structure. Eighteen (18) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately forty-two (42) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Division Chief D. Atkins was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 10:04 p.m. One firefighter was transported in non-critical condition to Regional One Burn Unit with smoke inhalation and 1st degree burns
to his ears and forehead. He was treated and later released. There were no civilian injuries. Red Cross provided assistance for two adults. It has been determined that the residence did have a working smoke alarm. Total damage is estimated at $60,000.00 structure and $25,000.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be intentionally set in the kitchen. This is an active investigation. The Memphis Fire Department responded to a vacant house fire at 3291 Denver Street, Monday, December 21, 2020 at 2:56 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported heavy fire visible from the one-story wood-frame residential structure. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Thirteen (13) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately twenty-nine (29)
emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Acting Battalion Chief H. Lowrance was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 3:19 a.m. One firefighter was treated and released on the scene for injuries sustained to his lower back and 2nd degree burns to his face and right wrist. There were no civilian injuries. The vacant structure sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $41,000.00 structure and no contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be intentionally set in the bedroom. This fire is still under investigation. Anyone with information

The Memphis Fire Department urges all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence. Check smoke alarms once a month and change the battery when you change your clocks.
