The Memphis Fire Department responded to a house fire at 815 N. Holmes Street, Monday, November 30, 2020 at 3:15 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported smoke visible from the one-story wood-frame residential structure. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Thirteen (13) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately thirty (30) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Battalion Chief D. Washington was the commanding officer of this
incident. The fire was brought under control at approximately 3:21 p.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Red Cross
assistance was not requested. It has been determined that the residence did have a working smoke alarm. The structure sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $5,000.00 structure and $1,000.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be faulty electrical wiring in the attic.

The Memphis Fire Department responded to a vacant house fire at 1491 McMillan Street, Monday, November 30, 2020 at 6:36 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported smoke visible from the one-story wood-frame residential structure. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Fifteen (15) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately thirty-five (35)
emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Battalion Chief C. Wilkins was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at approximately 6:47 p.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Red Cross
assistance was not requested. The vacant structure sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $7,000.00 structure and no contents. The origin and cause of the fire is inconclusive. This remains under investigation. The Memphis Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2270 Cassie Avenue, Monday, November 30, 2020 at 10:18 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported heavy fire visible from the one-story wood-frame residential structure. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Thirteen (13) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately thirty-two (32)
emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Battalion Chief P. Jones was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at approximately 10:35 p.m. An adult male was transported in stable condition to Methodist North Hospital with a leg injury. There were no firefighter injuries. Red Cross provided assistance for four (4) adults.
It has been determined that the residence did have a working smoke alarm. The structure sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $40,000.00 structure and $20,000.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction in the fuse box in the family room.

The Memphis Fire Department responded to a house fire at 615 E. McKellar Avenue, Monday, November 30, 2020 at 10:46 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported heavy smoke visible from the one-story wood-frame residential structure. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Fourteen (14) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately thirty (30)
emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Division Chief D. Atkins was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at approximately 11:44 p.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Red Cross provided assistance for one (1) adult and five (5) children. It has been determined that the residence did not have a working smoke alarm. The structure sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $20,000.00 structure and $8,500.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction at the breaker box in the bedroom.

The Memphis Fire Department responded to an alarm of fire at 5985 S. Little Brook Circle, Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 5:27 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported heavy smoke visible from the two-story, wood-frame apartments. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Fifteen (15) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately forty-one (41)
emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Acting Battalion Chief M. Whitaker was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 5:46 p.m. A sixteen (16) year old child was alerted by the sound of the smoke alarm; she woke her mother and alerted the neighbors and they all escaped safely, prior to the arrival of fire crews. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Red Cross provided assistance for two (2) families. Two (2) units sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $14,000.00 structure and $4,000.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be a heater’s power cord that malfunctioned in the wall near the stairwell.


The Memphis Fire Department urges all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence. Check smoke alarms once a month and change the battery when you change your clocks.
