Residential Fires: Brookmeade Street, Vann Avenue, Charleswood Avenue

The Memphis Fire Department responded to an alarm of fire at 3284 Brookmeade Street, Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 8:58 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported fire visible from the one-story, wood frame residential structure. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Thirteen (13) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately thirty (30)
emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Battalion Chief P. Jones was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 9:08 p.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Red Cross assistance was not requested. It has been determined that the residence did not have a working smoke alarm. The structure sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $10,000 structure and $3,000.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was
determined to be a space heater that malfunctioned in the bedroom.

The Memphis Fire Department responded to an alarm of fire at 4223 Vann Avenue, Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 9:56 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported smoke visible from the one-story, wood frame residential structure. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Fourteen (14) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately thirty-three
(33) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Acting Battalion Chief R. Webb was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 10:10 a.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Red Cross assistance was not requested. It has been determined that the residence did not have a working smoke alarm. The structure sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $15,000 structure and $3,000.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was
determined to be accidental; a candle left unattended ignited combustible materials in the bedroom.

The Memphis Fire Department responded to a house fire at 4244 Charleswood Avenue, Monday, November 16, 2020 at 11:33 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters reported heavy fire visible from the one-story wood-frame residential structure. Fourteen (14) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately thirty-three (33) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Battalion Chief P. Jones was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 12:15 a.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. It has been determined that the residence did have a working smoke alarm. The structure and two (2) vehicles sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $9,000.00
vehicles, $130,800.00 structure and $65,400.00 contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be the result of a vehicle fire in the carport. Red Cross provided assistance for two (2) adults.

The Memphis Fire Department urges all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence. Check smoke alarms once a month and change the battery when you change your clocks. City of Memphis residents may apply for a free smoke
