Online surveys, virtual office hours for street design proposals

WHO: City Engineering, Bikeway and Pedestrian Program Manager Nicholas Oyler

WHAT: The Division of Engineering is conducting a public outreach effort related to the Fiscal Year 2023 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Re-Surfacing projects. As a part of their re-surfacing, Engineering proposes to re-configure the lanes on the street segments listed below. The re-configurations may include new center two-way turn lanes, parking lanes, and/or bicycle lanes. An online survey and virtual public office hours are available as a means of collecting public input.

Fiscal Year 2023 CIP Re-Surfacing Projects with Proposed Lane Re-Configurations:

  • Barron Avenue (from Pendleton to Prescott)
  • Shady Grove Road (from Interstate 240 to Brierview)
  • Latham Street (from Person to Mallory)
  • Whitney Road (from Watkins St. to Range Line)

The surveys are now open, and will close at 11:59 Pm on September 12, 2021.

The Fiscal Year 2023 re-surfacing projects are tentatively scheduled to reach construction between fall 2022 and summer 2023. A map with these street segments as well as all street segments included on the Fiscal Year 2022 CIP Re-Surfacing list can be found on the City’s Street Paving Schedule application.

WHEN/WHERE: Surveys are posted at https://www.memphistn.gov/government/engineering/surveys. Due to public health restrictions regarding COVID-19, we will be hosting two “Virtual Office Hours” sessions in lieu of a traditional public input meeting. During these office hours, City staff will be available to answer your questions and display images on the screen, as needed.

The Virtual Office Hours will be held as follows:

Thursday,  September 2nd  4:00 PM to 6:00 PM for Latham St. and Whitney Ave./Clifton Ave.

Thursday,  September 9th 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM for Shady Grove Rd. and Barron Ave.

To register, please email Alex.Uhlmann@memphistn.gov with the name of the street you would like to discuss. You will then receive a link that you can use to access the office hours via a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
