Memphis Office of Youth Services accepts Cummins grant for summer jobs

In support of the City of Memphis’ summer youth jobs program, the Memphis Office of Youth Services (MOYS) welcomes the generous grant of $60,000 dollars from Cummins.

“We greatly appreciate Cummins support for our summer jobs program which is essential to help us make sure young people have positive opportunities,” said Mayor Jim Strickland.  “The grant will allow us to provide employment for dozens of young people over the next few years.”

The $60,000 grant will fund summer employment for an additional 12 young people each year for the next three years.

“We believe our business is only as healthy as our communities and the Memphis community has been important to Cummins for more than 50 years,” said Mary Titsworth Chandler, Vice President of Community Relations for Cummins Inc. and CEO of the Cummins Foundation. “By investing in community projects and partnering with the City of Memphis and its office of Youth Services, Cummins helps power a more prosperous world.”

The MOYS has worked tirelessly to raise additional funds to provide life skills, job training, and summer employment.  Since 2016 MOYS has double the number of participants of the MPLOY Summer Program from 1,000 to 2,000 youth.

“The Memphis Office of Youth Services is most appreciative to Cummins for supporting Memphis youth,” said Office of Youth Services Director, Ike Griffith. “This money will allow us to increase the number of participants of the MPLOY Summer Program over the next three years. On behalf of the entire staff of the Memphis Office of Youth Services, thank you.”

Once the funds are accepted by Memphis City Council the grant will be put in immediate use in FY22.   The Cummins grant will allow the program to continue to grow in years to come.
