Hospitality Hub breaks ground on new home

The Hospitality Hub breaks ground on its new Washington Avenue home Monday, June 21.

The new Hub campus will include the region’s first barrier-free emergency shelter for women, expanded Hub operations center, as well as a 25,000 square foot urban park and green spaces for staff and clients to enjoy.

The women’s shelter will provide a place for clients to heal from trauma. It is paired with 24/7 case-management that will serve as a baseline to rebuild a stable life. Clients at the shelter will also have access to a quiet room, family room, salon, and outdoor space. The Hub operations center is the single point of entry for homeless individuals and will assess each person’s needs to connect them with necessary resources. The urban park will give clients a place to relax while in close proximity to professional care and will also serve as a space to gather for special events or to socialize. Additional green spaces will allow clients to connect with nature and also help reduce stress.

“At a critical point in their lives when a calm and safe place is needed most, this new women’s shelter will offer safety and resources to women in need,” Mayor Jim Strickland said. “From a City-standpoint, I’m so pleased to have been able to get this done and so thankful to our many partners for helping us to complete this project.”

The project was made possible by the City of Memphis, Shelby County Government, Kresge Foundation, Assisi Foundation, Turner, A2H, Nature Sacred, Dragonfly, and many donors.

The Hospitality Hub was founded in 2007 by the Downtown Churches Association from a desire to offer the homeless in Memphis a centralized point of entry into the Continuum of Care. For more information, visit hospitalityhub.org.
