City Winter Weather Update (2-6)

6 p.m. update

Service Impacts:

Closures: Raleigh, Randolph, and South Libraries.

These services are still impacted due to winter weather: Memphis ParksMemphis Animal Shelter, LibrariesCommunity Centers (excluding warming centers), Code Enforcement, City Treasury, Office of Business Diversity and Compliance311 and 211.

–Tax payments can be made online or by phone at 901-636-7200.

–The City’s Treasury Office also offers taxpayers a convenient drop box located in the Main Lobby at City Hall.

  • Public Works:

Road operations

185,000 tons of salt was applied to treat city roadways

Downed trees

451 downed trees were reported to OEM

384 trees have been cleared from city streets

67 total number of open service request

18 city crews are working to clear reported downed trees

Storm recovery is a continuous operation and the city is using all available assets to manage the server winter weather storm.

  • Traffic Engineering,

46 Traffic light outages were reported to OEM of the city’s 785 signalized intersections.

Safety Tips for Traffic Signal Outage:

–Traffic Signal Lights with outages should be treated as a four way stop.

–Flashing Red Lights should be treated as a stop sign

–Flashing Yellow Lights – Drivers should proceed with caution only when traffic permits

  • MLGW

— MLGW crews and assisting out of state utility company crews continue make progress to restore power.
— As of 6:15 pm, 78,833 customers are still without power. It may take several days for power to be restored in some areas.

  • Respite Centers

—With temperatures rising and additional resources available, Respite Centers are now closed.

93 residents received assistance at the Respite Center locations on Saturday February 5, 2022

  • Warming Center

100 residents were sheltered at the Hickory Hill Community Center on Saturday, February 5, 2022

The Emergency Warming Center at Hickory Hill CC will close tomorrow morning, Feb. 7, at 7 a.m. and reopen at 7 p.m. Monday night. It will then run through 7 a.m. Tuesday morning and close.

Those seeking overnight shelter accommodations are encouraged to seek assistance from our partners at:

• The Salvation Army located at 696 Jackson Avenue (901)-529-4545

  • Community Centers

Senior Centers and Community Centers will be impacted until power is fully restored.

  • Garbage, recycling and outside the cart collections:

Regular garbage and recycling collections will resume tomorrow, Monday, February 7.  Customers will experience bulk and outside the cart waste service delays. Customers are asked to take your carts to the curb on your regular day, and leave them until it’s collected.

Make sure your cart lids are completely closed to prevent tampering by pets and to block rainwater.  Excessive rainwater in your carts slows the workflow for Solid Waste crews.
