City of Memphis Winter Weather Updates (12-26)

Warming Centers

There are two warming center available for residents,  the Hospitality Hub, location 590 Washington Avenue  and Dave Wells Community Center, location at 915 Chelsea Avenue.

  • Hospitality Hub – 133 currently, 133 overnight
  • Dave Wells – 74 currently, 74 total over night

Warming centers will remain open until further notice.  For transportation, please
contact the Office of Emergency Management at 901-297-1680.

MLGW

Update as of  11 a.m. 24 outages are reported, affecting approximately 49 customers and 99.9 % of customers have power.

Water levels are low throughout the Memphis coverage area. The Boiled Water Advisory is still in effect until further notice and includes all  Memphis MLGW water customers.  For more information, https://www.mlgw.com/news/MLGW_BOIL_WATER_2

Solid Waste/Garbage, recycling and outside the cart collections:

City crews will be working overtime throughout the week following Christmas to restore services. We ask for your patience as service will not be restored fully until Saturday, December 31, 2022. Customers experiencing delays are asked to leave their garbage and recycle carts at the curb until collected. 

MATA
MATA is continuing to operate on a “Sunday Service” schedule (10 a.m. – 7 p.m.)  and Trolleys are now operational. 

Public Works:

City crews will remain on standby as Public Works monitors the recent forecast for low snow accumulations. To report a downed trees after-hours call OEM at (901) 636-2525

Memphis Police Department 

Crashes  continue to go down with a total of  50 motor vehicle crashes in the last 24 hours. MPD’s Inclement Weather policy for crashes is still in effect; meaning a minor crash with no injuries or wrecker needed or if no physical impairment is present,  drivers should exchange information.  You can  also report crashes to any of the nine police stations within 48 hours of the crash.  Please watch out for first responders when they are out of their vehicles working traffic events. 

Memphis Animal Services

It is still too cold for pets to be left outside, even in dog houses. Bring them inside at least until Monday to avoid the death of your pet and (potential criminal charges). Memphis Animal Services is AT CAPACITY.  If you find a lost pet, if you can, please hang onto to it while you look for the owner.  If your neighbor has a dog outside, try speaking with them first before calling Animal Control as our resources are stretched thin.

Hotels

Burst pipes and low water pressure are causing issues at hotel properties across the city and county. Call MLGW’s 24-hour emergency number, 901-528-4465, to report any leaks or burst pipes that require MLGW’s attention. As a precautionary measure, MLGW water customers are asked to boil water before using for consumption. 

Memphis International Airport

Many airlines have canceled or delayed flights around the country due to snow and ice. Be sure to check your airline before heading to the airport. You can keep up with all MEM flight statuses on our website at https://flymemphis.com/flight-status/
